A royal commission is considered to be Australia’s highest form of formal inquiry. The commission into child sexual abuse discovered that abuse took place most commonly in religious institutions (reported by 58.1% of survivors). The commission recommended that child sexual abuse disclosed during a religious confession should be reported. But the church is fiercely fighting this reform and once again, decided to be on the wrong side of history.
